The CIH Beef Margin seminar is designed to help beef producers identify and protect forward profit margins. This comprehensive seminar includes a thorough review of cash market alternatives and a fundamental background of the futures and options.

Topics Covered

  • Fundamentals of Beef Margin Management
  • An introduction to modeling forward profitability and using various contracting alternatives to protect profit margins.

  • Contracting Alternatives
  • Comparing available contracting choices in the cash and futures markets.

  • Introduction to Options
  • An overview of options, including how they work and components of option premium/value.

  • Core Options/Futures Strategies
  • How to use futures and options positions to establish protection against the risk of higher costs and lower sale prices.
